"You Are Here" Opening Reception

“You Are Here” is an exhibit of oil paintings by Shawn Demarest depicting streets in the Portland area painted by the vantage point of a bicyclist, pedestrian or driver. The exhibit features large canvases that offer viewers the feeling of traveling into the painted space. The paintings aim to capture the feeling of a moment in time by altering the composition and modifying the contrast and color. Paintings of mundane views take on new meaning as they explore the urban trappings of modern day Portland. This project was partially funded by a grant from the Regional Arts and Culture Council.
