Secrets of the Civil War: Summer Session for Kids

August 12-16, 2013
Secrets of the Civil War: Summer Session for Kids
Are you looking for summer activities for your child who loves history?  Macculloch Hall Historical Museum presents “Secrets of the Civil War: Summer Session for Kids” with fun, hands-on activities during the week of August 12 to August 16.  Each morning from 9 am to noon, participants will explore a variety of topics with the Museum’s Educator from the frontline of battle to the home front.  Hands-on projects include building a model of a Civil War battlefield and making replicas of the ships Merrimack and Monitor, and testing them in a water battle.  Children will also learn about nineteenth century illustrator Thomas Nast, create an original work of art, and try printing for themselves using brayers and ink.  What about those Civil War secrets?  Each day participants will delve into a different secret surrounding the Civil War and determine how important this secret was to the Union’s eventual victory.  Activities are recommended for children ages 8 – 12 years old. Preregistration is required.  Call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email cwinslow@maccullochhall.org to receive a registration form.  The cost for the week-long program is $175/child for Museum members and $200/child for non-members.  Not yet a member?  Visit maccullochhall.org and become a member today.
