Historic Windows Restoration Workshop
August 17, 2013 |
Preservation Alliance of West Virginia (PAWV) announces a historic wooden window rehabilitation demonstration and hands-on project conducted by PAWV’s Statewide Field Services Representative, Lynn Stasick, and historic preservation expert, Phil Davis, at the historic Ananias Pitsenbarger Farm in Franklin, Pendleton County, WV. Participants will not only learn preservation skills to rehabilitate and weatherize historic windows, but they also will engage in actual preservation work by practicing these techniques on hand-made windows original to log structures on the historic farmstead. Registration for the workshop is $35, and lunch will be provided.
During the full-day workshop participants will learn Class I hands-on methods for the routine maintenance required to upgrade a window to "like new" condition. Preservation methods to be taught will include some degree of interior and exterior paint removal, removal and repair of window sash (including re-glazing where necessary), repairs to the frame, weather-stripping and reinstallation of the sash, and repainting. These techniques will make a historic window an asset to your building as well as your wallet.
PAWV is the statewide grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation in WV - www.pawv.org. The historic Ananias Pitsenbarger Farm was added to PAWV’s Endangered Properties List in 2013, and it is one of the only in-tact German subsistence farmsteads remaining in West Virginia.
