Canandaigua's Centennial Tour of Homes
September 21, 2013 |
Canandaigua, N.Y. - Embark on a tour through Canandaigua's rich history on Saturday, September 21 with the Centennial Tour of Homes, offered through the Ontario County Historical Society. This event returns for the city's centennial birthday, as we look back on the architectural history of early Canandaigua. Tours will run throughout the day, beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm.
Eight historical homes will be featured on the tour, located down North Main Street and Gorham Street in Canandaigua. Many of the homes feature architecture reminiscent of the early settlements and log cabins that were common 200 years ago. Selected sites for this year's tour include an 1894 and 1925 Roda Hogan home, an 1896 Saunders & Mead home, an old trolley barn and five parish stops on the St. Mary's Campus. The Ontario County Historical Society, soon to celebrate its 100th birthday in 2014, will be the meeting place for departing tours.
Each featured location has a story to tell - they were the homes of scholars, orators and statesmen of the 19th and early 20th centuries. From the design to the construction to the rich history, the Centennial Tour of Homes gives a fascinating glimpse into the lives and lifestyles of the residents who have occupied these homes over Canandaigua's many years.
