Old Redmond Historic Walking Tours, 2013

August 17 - September 16, 2013

OLD REDMOND HISTORIC WALKING TOURS, 2013
The Redmond Historical Society is pleased to announce the last of the 10th anniversary Old Redmond Historic Walking Tours.  The final tour will be held on September 15, 2013, as part of a special “Haunted History Walking Tour and Storytelling” event.   Local historian Tom Hitzroth is the man with the stories, gossip, and names that make the early history of Redmond so interesting.  At 4:30 p.m. Tom will conduct a family-friendly Haunted History Walking Tour and at 7:00 p.m. he will conduct the second Haunted History Walking Tour for those who can stay up past 8:00 p.m.!  Both tours begin at the Old Redmond Schoolhouse Community Center, 16600 NE 80 Street, Redmond, WA.  As this is a very popular activity, registration is required by the Friday before the tour.  RSVPs are necessary and additional information is available at http://www.redmond.gov/Government/HistoricPreservation/.

Several special events precede the actual walking tours.  At 4:15 p.m. a Redmond Historical Society video, “Redmond Views from History,” will be shown, along with displays, and refreshments will be served.  From 5:55 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. will be a time of great story-telling with Native American, Salish storyteller Roger Fernandes, and with Stephanie Hofland’s Readers Theater.  Mr. Fernandes will engage the audience with local Salish traditions and mysteries and Ms. Hofland will entertain the audience with an orchestrated and performance-based story about Redmond’s school boys from our pioneering families.

This special event is not to be missed!  With support from Humanities Washington, the event is free.

The walking tours include a significant amount of walking and standing, with limited opportunity for resting.  We recommend comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing.  The event and tour opportunities will occur, rain or shine.
