Traditions V: VCU's Symposium on Architectural History & the Decorative Arts

November 15, 2013

The Department of Art History in the School of the Arts at Virginia Commonwealth University caps two decades of Symposia on Architectural History and the Decorative Arts with "Traditions–V." The sparkling presentations, directed by Professor Charles Brownell, will take place at the Virginia Historical Society on Friday, November 15th, 2013 from 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The four sessions will deal with extraordinary Palladian design books in VCU's James Branch Cabell Library, the triumphant restoration of Richmond's Hancock-Wirt-Caskie House, the exotic and the avant-garde in ceramics from the Victorian period into the Arts & Crafts Movement, and the dramatic achievements of VCU students in the Architectural History Track in 2012-13. Admission is free to all students with a valid ID, $8 per person for members of sponsoring institutions, and $10 per person for others. Reservations are necessary for two additional events: a luncheon located at the Virginia Historical Society ($15) and a reception at the beautifully restored Hancock-Wirt-Caskie House ($15).

For additional information, please call (804) 828-2784 or email Program Coordinator Krista Privott at knprivott@vcu.edu.
