Multnomah County Courthouse Tour
August 2, 2007 |
Tour the historic Multnomah County Courthouse under the expert guidance of Pam Kleckner, Courthouse Project Manager, and Property Manager Mike Crank. Two of the original 17 courtrooms (there are now 30) will be included.
When this second county edifice was completed in 1911 and 1914, it was Portland’s largest single building and the largest courthouse on the west coast. Designed by the prominent architecture firm of Whidden and Lewis, who also designed the nearby City Hall, it is a significant example of Neoclassical architecture.
Listed on the National Register in 1979, the eight-story building occupies an entire city block and features a limestone façade with major entrances framed in carved granite, and glazed terra cotta decorative motifs.
Pre-registration is strongly suggested, either at http://www.visitahc.org or using the coupon in the newsletter.
