Thor and the Ice Giants: Construction & Rehabilitation of the Vista House at Crown Point State Park
August 4, 2007 |
The breathtaking view of the Columbia River Gorge from the Vista House at Crown Point is known throughout the nation as an icon for Oregon. Unfortunately, the Vista House had been ravaged through time with severe weather damage.
In 1994, Oregon State Parks and the Friends of Vista House began a 10-year effort to reverse the damages. Henry Kunowski, who oversaw the rehabilitation project, will present a lecture on the history of Vista House, and how it was rehabilitated to be weather-tight, safer, and more accessible…and preserved for future generations.
The Vista House opened in 1918 as a comfort station and memorial to early pioneers who traveled on the Columbia River. The landmark became a “Save America’s Treasures” property in 2002.
