Unique Explorations: Opening Doors for 40 Years
December 8, 2013 |
Since its founding in 1973, Historic Harrisburg Association has conducted its Candlelight House Tour of area homes and public buildings. The annual event helps usher in the festive holiday season with a hospitable experience and an enlightening time.
Each year, a different neighborhood is highlighted and residents volunteer to open their homes for the perusal and enjoyment of tour-goers. From small pre-Civil War row houses to the mansions of Front Street, Historic Harrisburg's Candlelight House Tour has allowed visitors to get a real sense of Harrisburg's architectural and social fabric — the very thing Historic Harrisburg strives to preserve.
People travel from all over Central Pennsylvania and beyond for the self-guided tour that features design, decoration, and diversity. Many current residents of Harrisburg decided to move to the city because of the insights they gained on an Historic Harrisburg Candlelight House Tour.
