New Design in Historic Districts
February 25, 2014 |
Traditional or Modern? This is the conundrum facing new rowhouse projects in NYC historic districts. Brendan Coburn, the founding principal of CWB Architects, will discuss how his firm approached the design of three different new rowhouse projects in Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill and Prospect Heights Historic Districts. The final designs, which all received the unanimous support and approval of the Landmark Preservation Commission, were informed by the firm’s knowledge of how particular districts value contextualism, combined with the clients' desires, and a sensitive approach to specific physical adjacencies. The presentation will also highlight political and architectural considerations that influenced the designs.
