“Jack Dempsey's book about the Civil War focuses on Michigan's contributions during the historic epoch. It is a comprehensive portrayal of the role that Michigan played immediately prior to, during, and immediately after the Civil War. Michigan provided military, logistical, and political support in the War for the Union, and there are numerous incidents and vignettes where Michiganders were highly significant.”
