Motivation History: Transporting Your Museum Forward - Fall MOMCC Conference 2007
November 8-10, 2007 |
Minneapolis and St. Paul in the mid-nineteenth century were a major hub of agriculture, transportation, and industry. Wheat drove agri-business in the late nineteenth century. The Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Minneapolis & St. Louis, and many other railroads made the “Twin Cities” their home. The powerful Falls of St. Anthony created the power for the milling of lumber for building prairie towns throughout the Midwest, and pure flour to feed hard-working homesteaders. Today, the cosmopolitan Cities are based on their rich historical record, offering agricultural markets, multimodal transit and excellent economic diversity. How does your site or organization interpret agriculture, industry, and “progress”? How do you signal comparisons and contrasts with historical legacies? What lessons from industrial history have motivated your museum to better meet best practices and commonly accepted museum standards? |
