Preserving Utility Tour: City Light Skagit Hydroelectric Facilities

Colleen McShane, Manager, Natural Resources and Environmental Planning, Environmental Affairs Division, and Rebecca Ossa, Historic Resource Specialist, Environmental Affairs Division, Seattle City Light give a special in-depth look at the Skagit River Hydroelectric Project. The daylong tour includes some buildings not on the regularly scheduled tours. The day starts with a guided walking tour of the historic company town of Newhalem, followed by stops at the Gorge Powerhouse Visitor Gallery and Ladder Creek Falls Gardens, and Diablo Powerhouse. Enjoy lunch at the North Cascades Institute Environmental Learning Center. The afternoon is spent cruising Diablo Lake to view the interior of Ross Powerhouse before returning to Newhalem.

Registration: $75 members; $90 general public (includes tours, lunch, boat ride, and on-site van transporation. Transportation to and from Newhalem is on your own; allow at least 2 1/2 hours for the trip from Seattle)
