The 1899 House is an after-fire, whole-house restoration of a Victorian home open to the public on specially planned Saturdays (during construction) with the intent of educating people considering the remodel / improvement of their period home.
It will also be a featured home on the Build-It-Green! Tour of Homes, Saturday, September 15th, 2007. Be sure to get your tickets to the tour early - it tends to sell out! (Ticket information is on the website.)
At this next Saturday session, you can learn more about things such as period appropriate restoration after a home disaster, abatement, alternative green materials with a respect to the home's original period style, energy efficient window choices, efficient heating and cooling systems, & sustainable/healthy interior/exterior material finishes from LOCAL businesses, non-profits, and city agencies.
Background on The 1899 House: In October of 2006, the unspeakable happened to a Queen Anne Victorian home in the North Mississippi Neighborhood of Portland - while the homeowners were working abroad, fire, started by a renter's cigarette, took away YEARS of hard work and left then with a shell of a home. The couple devestated, but undetered, are not only bringing this home back - but better. The entire restoration process has occurred cyberly while they had to finish out their work committment abroad!
Bring your mug when you come - we will have coffee!
