Curtains Up! Restoring Historic Theatres and Revitalizing Communities

November 8-10, 2007

Contemplating acquiring, restoring and revitalizing a historic theatre? Already have one and need some help? This workshop, held in collaboration with the League of Historic American Theatres and the Wisconsin Historical Society, will feature nationally recognized experts who will provide a thorough overview of the process of rescuing, rehabilitating, and successfully operating a historic theatre. Come with a project and leave with a plan.

Who Should Attend? Historic theatre owners and stewards, architects, historic preservation professionals, members of local historic preservation organizations, city staff, performing arts organizations, Chambers of Commerce, and Main Street leaders. Development teams, or groups who want to rehabilitate a historic theatre, are encouraged to attend.

The conference will take place at The Pfister Hotel. See www.pfisterhotel.com/location/directions.asp for a map and directions.

The Pfister Hotel (www.pfisterhotel.com) has a reserved block of 30 rooms for event attendees, available at the special price of $159.00 + tax for the evenings of Thursday, November 8, and Friday, November 9. To take advantage of the special rate, make your reservations by October 6, 2007 and mention the National Trust’s Curtains Up! Restoring Historic Theatres and Revitalizing Communities Seminar.

The seminar cost is $80 per person. Scholarships for eligible participants are available.

All seminar information, including an electronic registration form and scholarship information can be found at www.wisconsinhistory.org/hp/workshop. If you have questions, contact the Midwest Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation at mwro@nthp.org or 312-939-5547, ext. 37229.
