Legends of the Land at Thomas Jefferson's Poplar Forest
October 25, 2014 |
Legends of the Land returns this year to bring a whole new dimension to the ongoing exploration of the Founding Father’s complex legacy. This guided, lantern-lit evening walk traverses the plantation from the kitchen to the slave quarters with stops along the way to meet and learn about the lives of the more than 94 enslaved men, women and children who kept Poplar Forest running. Experience the magic of African American storytellers as they bring period folktales and myths to life; listen to the soulful sounds of traditional black spirituals; and more.
Legends of the Land tours are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Reservations are required. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 6–16 and free for children under 6. In the case of rain, the event will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, November 1. Sponsored by Progress Printing and The News & Advance.
