Timberline Lodge: Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of a Historic Treasure
September 1 - October 14, 2007 |
In 1936, craftsmen and artists employed by the Works Progress Administration began construction of Timberline Lodge on the south slope of Oregon's Mount Hood. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt dedicated the building on September 28, 1937. Today, much of Timberline's unique original art and furniture remains on site, accompanied by hand-wrought ironwork, handmade textiles, wood furniture and carvings created in the spirit of the originals.
This exhibition celebrates the art and appointments of Timberline Lodge with photographs, documents, original artwork and other materials borrowed from the John Wilson Special Collections, Timberline Lodge, Friends of Timberline, Mt. Hood Cultural Center and Museum, and elsewhere.
Opening Reception: September 15, 2-3:30pm. Please join us in the Collins Gallery for an introduction by Timberline Lodge historian and exhibition co-curator Sarah Munro and opening remarks by exhibition co-curator Jim Carmin. The reception will honor Timberline's original artists and craftsmen, including Douglas Lynch and Henry Harth, and others involved with the lodge's early history, including publicist George Henderson, architects Neil Farnham and A.P. DiBenedetto, and Civilian Conservation Corps member Dan Snyder.
