Black History Month Celebration: Exploring African-American Genealogy
January 27, 2015 |
Join us as a panel of historians and genealogy experts discuss the many methods and resources available for discovering African-American genealogy. Traditionally, tracing African-American genealogy has been extremely challenging and difficult to follow through the tumultuous nature of historical documentation during the era of American slavery. Over the past century, however, there have been huge advancements in the resources available for tracking and exploring African-Americans’ ancestry.
Following the panel discussion, there will be personal genealogical consultations offered by expert members of the Afro-American Historical and Genealogical Society (AAHGS). Participants may sign up for FREE 15-minute appointments and receive help with your personal genealogy searches.
Both events are free but do not include admission to The Hermitage. Visit thehermitage.com/events to see the full month’s schedule.
