Preserving the Recent Past
November 10, 2007 |
PRESERVING THE RECENT PAST Communities across New Jersey are working to understand the preservation challenges presented by 20th century architecture. Unlike our treasures from the 18th and 19th centuries, more recent buildings present a different set of questions and concerns. Is architecture of the recent past really historic? Is it worth preserving? How should such structures be evaluated?
“Preserving the Recent Past,” a workshop sponsored by Drew University’s Historic Preservation Program, will offer participants an understanding of the evolution of modern architecture, focusing on 20th century design and use of modern materials. Using case studies, the workshop will highlight the specific challenges in preserving architectural resources from the recent past.
Taught by the staff of the New Jersey Historic Preservation Office, this program will cover regulatory and planning issues as well as conservation challenges specific to modern materials, and take a look at trends and advocacy from the state and national perspective.
This workshop will be held on Saturday, November 10th from 9 am to 4 pm on Drew’s campus in Madison, NJ. Cost of attendance is $100, which includes lunch. |
