Moh-Kins-Tsis - Calgary Indigenous Heritage Roundtable
October 21, 2015 |
In recognition of National Aboriginal History Month, the National Trust for Canada is pleased to announce the addition of a special pre-National Trust Conference event: a ground-breaking Roundtable on the protection of Calgary’s Indigenous heritage sites.
Registration is now open!
Calgary has a rich Indigenous heritage with many places of sacred and cultural significance – from Nose Hill to Paskapoo Slopes. And yet these important places are rarely protected by provincial legislation or recognized by municipal bylaws and polices. MOH-KINS-TSIS Calgary Indigenous Heritage Roundtable aims to open a dialogue and to find solutions to this gap in knowledge and protection.
Bringing together elders and knowledge keepers with practitioners in the fields of heritage, archaeology, architecture and planning, MOH-KINS-TSIS will discuss heritage sites in Calgary and how Indigenous and Non-Indigenous protocols for protection of heritage places can be aligned. The goal will be to map a way forward to a shared understanding, strong relationships and a new paradigm.
