Northwest History Network Associate Presentations About Their Projects

July 18, 2015

NHN Associates Jan Dilg and Heather Mayer will make presentations about their projects and have discussion and question and answer sessions with event attendees.

Jan Dilg will talk about the founding of the Oregon Women’s History Consortium (OWHC), the partnership with the National Collaborative for Women’s History Sites/Oregon Heritage Commission on the suffrage centennial and the value of collaboration, and the new project of the OWHC beginning in the fall of 2015.

Heather Mayer will present an overview of her research on her dissertation, “Beyond the Rebel Girl: Women, Wobblies, Respectability, and the Law in Oregon and Washington, 1905-1924”, as well as discussing the research process and some of the difficulties in finding sources when doing women’s history.

Janice Dilg is the principal of HistoryBuilt, a historical consulting firm. She works with public agencies, non-profits, and historical organizations on a variety of public history programs, events, and products. Janice earned her MA in history at Portland State University in 2005, where her research centered on early twentieth century women and labor. She aspires to develop and institute a more inclusive history for Oregon and the Pacific Northwest through her work. As the Project Director for the Century of Action: Oregon Women Vote, 1912-2012, Janice helped lead the statewide centennial commemoration of women gaining the right to vote in the Oregon during 2011-2012. Janice specializes in oral history, and coordinates the oral history project for the U.S. District Court of Oregon Historical Society, and is currently working on the Oregon State University’s Sesquicentennial Oral History Project.

Heather Mayer graduated with a Ph.D. in History from Simon Fraser University in June 2015, where her fields of study included the United States since 1890, Gender History, and Labor History. She is currently a part-time U.S. History instructor at Portland Community College, as well as the Coordinator of the Teaching Learning Center at the Rock Creek campus.

The event is free and open to NHN Associates and the general public, and will be held at the Architectural Heritage Center (AHC) (http://visitahc.org/) on Saturday, July 18th, in the Burns Classroom from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm. The AHC is located at 701 SE Grand Avenue, Portland, Oregon, 97214. RSVP requested via email at bryans1212@q.com or by phone at 503-747-9652.
