Staunton Stories
March 19, 2016 |
As a kick-off the SDDA’s 20-Year Anniversary, the community will be invited to bring up to three pieces of hand-held memorabilia including unique, undocumented photographs, letters, documents, and a to have them digitized or photographed and to record their story.
We are looking for memorabilia that depicts neighborhoods, families, veterans, the African-American community, events, local businesses, social clubs, etc...
Everyone has a story to tell about their Staunton life. The event will celebrate and chronicle the extraordinary lives of the people of Staunton and reconnect our locals with their fond memories and proud contributions to Downtown. People should bring
items that have a personal connection where they can describe in detail what’s
depicted in the image, as they will be asked to describe the image in detail
for the archives and the video sessions. Items will be either scanned or
photographed and then returned.
Items and videos will be available to the public online and launched in June 2016.
The SDDA will host a Staunton Stories Exhibit on Friday, June 17, 6pm – 8pm – Sunday, July 31 at The Artisans Loft.
Partnering organizations include the Historic Staunton Foundation, NBC Channel 29, and the City of Staunton IT Department.
