Death Becomes Her: Fashionable Mourning from 1815-1915
April 2, 2016 |
Jessica Glasscock, assistant curator and research associate at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute will discuss the evolution of American and European mourning attire from the 19th to the early 20th Century. The talk will combine visuals from The Costume Institute’s exhibition, “Death Becomes Her”. Ms. Glasscock will highlight how high fashion mourning attire, a signifier of aristocratic identity, transformed as it became readily available during the industrial age. The program will be held in conjunction with a temporary display of mourning items at King Manor Museum in honor of the anniversary of Rufus King’s death.
