Holiday Matinee at the Historic Los Angeles Theatre
December 2, 2007 |
Celebrate the holidays Los Angeles Conservancy-style, with a classic film in a historic movie palace!
Meet Me in St. Louis (1944) Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. Los Angeles Theatre 615 South Broadway, Downtown L.A.
Meet Me in St. Louis follows the Smith family in 1903 St. Louis, as the city gears up for the famous World’s Fair. Filmed in gorgeous Technicolor and full of unforgettable songs like “The Trolley Song,” “The Boy Next Door,” and the iconic “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” this classic musical bursts with charm and enthusiasm.
See the film on the big screen at the Los Angeles Theatre in downtown’s Broadway Historic Theatre district. The most lavish and last built (1931) of Broadway’s great movie palaces, the Los Angeles Theatre was designed by S. Charles Lee with S. Tilden Norton. It recalls the glories of the French Baroque, with a majestic lobby featuring fluted columns, sparkling chandeliers, detailed plaster ornamentation, and a sunburst motif alluding to France’s “Sun King,” Louis XIV. The stage curtain depicts a courtly scene in three dimensions, with figures clothed in real fabric and wigs of braided wool.
