Press Release: For Immediate Release

Walking Tour of Bristol to Highlight the Work of 19th Century Architect Russell Warren

Explore the work of prominent 19th century architect, Russell Warren, through a walking tour of downtown Bristol, Rhode Island

Linden Place is pleased to present a walking tour of downtown Bristol focused on the work of Russell Warren, one of New England’s most renowned architects of the 19th century, known for his wide use of the Greek Revival style. The walking tour will be led by David Harrington, the director of the Rhode Island Historical Society’s
“Russell Warren Digitization Project”, a collaborative effort with the help of the Providence Athenaeum, Linden Place Mansion and others to assemble a comprehensive database of digitized plans, drawings, and other documentation detailing the life and work of Tiverton-born architect Russell Warren.

Harrington states, “Russell Warren’s career began in Bristol.  From there, his work spanned the eastern seaboard and Canada. From New Bedford, Providence, Fall River, and to South Carolina, Warren is recognized as one of New England’s finest architects of the New Republic. His roots remained firmly in his home state of Rhode Island, and the breadth of his work is reflected in his Bristol commissions.”

This guided walking tour around downtown Bristol allows tour goers the chance to experience the architecture of Warren first hand. The tour begins at Linden Place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 18th and continues along the tree-lined streets where many Warren-designed homes still exist. Tour goers will have special access to interiors of select private homes. The cost for the tour is $10 for members and $15 for the general public. Comfortable attire appropriate for walking is suggested.

Advanced registration is necessary and can be made by calling the Linden Museum office at 401-253-0390 or e-mailing info@lindenplace.org.
