Juneteenth Anniversary
June 19, 2016 |
On June 19, 1865, word finally reached the westernmost frontier of Texas that the war had ended and all slavery in the United States was finally at an end.
The program will include a new hands-on history program “Horse-Racing and Slavery” featuring the stories of the Hermitage’s enslaved horse trainers and jockeys who managed Jackson’s racing stables and helped earn his fortune. You’ll also get to meet some of the real carriage horses of today’s Hermitage!
Experience the 19th century come to life with our annual program series Sundays LIVE!
Every Sunday from June through September, visitors can experience a wide variety of living history and interactive programs designed for all ages! Interact with historic figures of all social classes and backgrounds, meet our beautiful farm animals and native wildlife, taste authentic southern biscuits, harvest the plantation crops, meet with soldiers from the War of 1812 and the Civil War, learn to duel like a Tennessee
gentleman, and so much more!
