The Fall Tours of Homes, History & Architecture
October 6-30, 2016 |
The fascinating history of Charleston’s culture, architecture, and hospitality comes alive in a rich assortment of private house tours, lunch lectures, walking tours, and behind-the-scenes programs.
Guests can elect a self-paced tour to survey the interiors of these historic homes, with guides on hand at each home to tell the story of its architectural history, inhabitants, and preservation efforts.
Lunch lectures set the stage for more in- depth study as local historians discuss how Charleston’s changing fortunes and cultural diversity influenced the city today.
Up close and personal tours are limited in size and provide access to homes rarely open to the public with unique stories to tell. This special group of offerings includes “A Day on the Cooper” exploring the historic plantation homes of the Cooper River now in private ownership.
Guests looking for a taste of Charleston’s architectural history before dinner can elect “Four for Forty”.
The interiors of four representative Charleston styles serve as appetizer for those looking for a quick taste of this year’s Fall Tours offerings.
And for those who want to couple their morning work-out with an opportunity to learn, walking tours will explore the exquisite ironwork that dominates the city or follow in the footsteps of the characters of The Invention of Wings, a best- selling novel set in Charleston.
