The Montclair Historical Society Celebrates December Days at Crane House
The Montclair Historical Society’s Israel Crane House at 110 Orange Road, Montclair, will celebrate December Days in true historical style. After the Montclair Garden Club decorates with fresh greens and arrangements typical of 1796, the house tours begin.
On Saturday and Sunday, December 15 and 16, visitors can take a guided tour every hour-on-the-hour from 12:00 noon with the last tour ending 4:00 PM. During this weekend, the kitchen docents will demonstrate open hearth cooking and offer light refreshments. Resident blacksmith, Sean Burns, will demonstrate his craft, and there will be live holiday music. Groups of more than five need to make reservations by calling 973-744-1796.
Admission is $5 per adult and $2 per child.
Visitors can continue to enjoy the festive fragrances and old-fashioned warmth among authentic 18th century furnishings during the week. The house museum will be open for Walk-Through-Only Tours on Tuesdays, December 11, and 13, and Thursdays, December 18 and 20, for only $3 per adult and $1 per child.
During the holiday week, on Thursday, Dec. 27 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and Friday, December 28 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., visitors are invited to bring out-of-town guests for a guided tour at $5 fee per adult and $2 per child. The Museum Shop will be open on all of the above days and hours, featuring gifts with a touch of history.
