A Summer Tea with Mrs. Sarah Morgan at Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum
June 15-17, 2017 |
LENOX, MA. Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum invites you to step back in time to Summer 1895. Mrs. George Morgan, the chatelaine of one of Lenox’s greatest cottages and known as Sarah to her family and closest friends, will host one of her famous sumptuous summer teas. You are invited to join her guests for “A Summer Tea with Mrs. Sarah Morgan.” She will be at home on Thursday, June 15th and Saturday, June 17th, both at 4:00 pm.
During this living history event, Sarah, performed by our favorite actress, Anne Undeland, will share with her guests her plans for a fancy dinner in the Dining Room and ball in the Great Hall. There’s the menu, the music, the floral arrangements, hiring extra staff, who’s coming, what her guests will be wearing – certainly she knows the house can easily accommodate such a large gathering. The party is just one of many Berkshire summer leisure activities revealed by Sarah, let alone neighborly gossip and talk about the dollar princesses like Jennie Jerome and Consuelo Vanderbilt. It’s history come alive!
Undeland has appeared on stages in and around the East Coast for over 20 years. Her many appearances at Ventfort Hall in collaboration with Shakespeare & Company have included the one-woman shows The Belle of Amherst, Xingu, in which she appeared as five different characters, and Fanny Kemble’s Lenox Address.
Undeland also portrayed five women in the humorous, mysterious, slightly risqué, yet poignant glimpse into the demi-monde world of a Belle Époque courtesan in Paris 1890 – Unlaced! She appeared in over 70 performances of the play, including Off-Broadway at the United Solo Theatre Festival, at Stageworks in Hudson, NY, and elsewhere.
Undeland is a Shakespeare & Company trained actress and has also performed with Mixed Company, Riggs Theatre 37, Castle Hill Theater, Barrington Stage, Capitol Repertory. She was also a recurring voice in BBC Radio plays by Gregory Whitehead.
Tickets for “A Summer Afternoon with Mrs. Sarah Morgan” are $35 per person. Reservations are required by June 12. Seating is limited. For information or reservations call Ventfort Hall at 413-637-3206 or visit info@gildedage.org. The historical mansion is located at 104 Walker Street in Lenox.
An Official Project of Save America’s Treasures program sponsored by The White House, Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum was built in 1893 for George and Sarah Morgan, who was the sister of financier J. P. Morgan. The museum offers tours of the historic mansion, as well as Tea & Talks, such exhibitions as the Bellefontaine Collection, concerts, theater, and other programs. This elegant Jacobean-Revival Berkshire “cottage,” listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is open to the public year-around and is available for private rental. Ventfort Hall has undergone substantial restoration, which continues.
