Using Lithomex for Stone & Brick Repair Workshop
July 28, 2017 |
Craftwork Training Center will help you restore the past!
Whether you're a craftsman, contractor, architect, artisan, or someone who simply loves vintage masonry, join us for a half-day workshop to learn the basics of Lithomex patch repair for stone and brick.
Rather than cutting out and replacing damaged or decaying brick and stone, convincing repairs can be achieved by using modern lime mortars. Lithomex is a distinctive mortar designed specifically to repair or simulate brick, stone, and terracotta surfaces. Unlike other products that trap moisture in the host stonework, Lithomex is flexible, porous, and breathable; allowing water vapor to pass through the masonry for long-lasting repairs. When applied by skilled craftsmen, Lithomex may be used to match the color and texture of existing stone and brick while maintaining similar thermal expansion and weathering characteristics of the host material. Extremely versatile, Lithomex may be used for surface repair, replacement of weathered and damaged stone, recreating lost details, or casting components. After placing or setting, Lithomex can be worked, tooled, dressed, and finished with traditional masonry tools, trowel edges, sculpting tools, sanding blocks, tungsten carbide abrasive sheet, and scratch floats. The lecture, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises cover proper mixing techniques, applying Lithomex to a practice wall, squaring-up and leveling the applied surface, and tooling the thumbprint-hard surface. To ensure an exceptional learning experience, the class size is limited.
After completing the workshop participants will:
- Understand how to properly prepare the existing substrate to be repaired.
- Be able to effectively carry out the steps to apply Lithomex.
- Have an introduction to the various methods used to finish or tool the product.
- Recognize the aesthetic qualities of Lithomex.
- Understand the properties that insure compatibility with the host masonry--breathable, porous, flexible, and harmonious thermal expansion.
