Long Island Lighthouses: Past and Present
April 5, 2018 |
On Thurs., April 5th, the Historical Society of Islip Hamlet will host Robert G. Müller and his presentation on "Long Island’s Lighthouses: Past and Present". The program, based on his 2004 book of the same name, is a fun and educational exploration of more than twenty local light stations and the people who have built and maintained them for over 220 years. The program illustrates the diversity and depth of our local lighthouse heritage with images from the 1796 to the present. Müller was the founding president of the Long Island Lighthouse Society, is a past president of the East Islip Historical Society, and has served as a volunteer at several lighthouses. He is currently a National Park Service volunteer at the Fire Island Lighthouse. The program will be held at the Islip Public Library, 71 Monell Ave., from 7-9 pm and is free and open to the public. Refreshments served. For more info: 631-245-0675,
