Entangled Urbanisms: History, Place, and the Shaping of Cities
May 17-18, 2018 |
The Department of Art History at Northwestern University, in conjunction with the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts, will hold a symposium on Thursday and Friday, May 17-18, 2018, on the topic of entangled urbanisms. The scholarly gathering seeks to examine methodological challenges and opportunities presented by the study of the interconnectedness of cities via comparative analyses and approaches. Papers will touch upon case studies in Africa, Asia, and Europe, as well as the Americas from the sixteenth century to the present. The symposium takes as its inspiration the innovative research on Paris and Chicago by David Van Zanten, who will provide a response to the symposium at its end. The symposium organizers are grateful to the Department of Architecture and Design at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Society of Architectural Historians for their partnership with this event.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
