WORKSHOPS
BLD 223: Facade Restoration
Students assess, document and restore/replace exterior siding and woodwork on the reconstruction of the 1852 Custom House. The building was completed in 1994 using methods, tools and materials of the original construction. Students will learn techniques for woodworking, rot repair and facade restoration.

BLD 134: Fundamentals of Woodworking
Students develop basic woodworking skills, including fundamentals of woodworking machines, hand tools, layout, and joinery. They will plan, layout and build a simple project.

BLD 228: Faux Finish Techniques
Students learn methods, tools and techniques for wood graining and marbleizing. They will create grain and texture with water-based paints and glazes, work with color, and visit several sites with faux finishes.

BLD 207: Project Management
Students are introduced to construction project management, including the design and construction process, construction planning, coordinating projects, cost estimating, labor, material and equipment utilization, negotiating, team work, communication, leadership and ethics.

BLD 210: Historic Preservation I
Survey of the history and theory of historic preservation. Learn the history of the historic preservation movement, preservation issues unique to the Pacific Northwest, and application of preservation methods to restoration projects.

BLD 140: Printreading for Construction
Learn and apply the principles of reading and interpreting construction drawings. Topics include the purpose of different types of drawings, types of projections, applications of math, and the use of conventions, scales, symbols, notes, schedules and dimensions in construction drawings.
