Wright Way Japan: Contemporary Architecture
March 26 - April 6, 2008 |
This unique tour studies the effect Frank Lloyd Wright had on shaping modern and contemporary Japanese architecture. Arata Endo, the architect's right-hand man on such projects as the Imperial Hotel and Jiyu-Gakuen, went on to establish his own brilliant career, the highlight being the magnificent Koshien Hotel. Antonin Raymond, another architect on the Imperial Hotel project, loved Japan so much that he stayed on to become one of Japan's most prominent architects. Experience cutting edge architecture set against a backdrop of traditional Japan during cherry blossom season. Highlights include an insider's tour of Tokyo led by Magnificent Obsession filmmakers Karen Severns and Koichi Mori, and a stay at Tadao Ando's exclusive Bennesse House on Naoshima Island,* where every room looks out on the sea.
Because of Naoshima's restrictions on development, which affect local transportation, this tour is limited to 20 participants.
Date March 26 – April 6 Cost $5495 members, $5995 non-members |
