Portland’s Masters of Modernism Tour
August 11, 2018 |
Architectural Heritage Center presents a walking tour of Portland's modern masters, including what is possibly the most significant post World War II building in the country. The names Pietro Belluschi, Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, Richard Sundeleaf, and Zimmer Gunsul Frasca, are synonymous with Portland’s growth in the years since the end of the Second World War. Their modernist designs dominated new construction in downtown and forever changed the Portland skyline. This tour examines the work and legacy of these masters of Portland’s modernist architectural heritage. Along the way you’ll see what many call Portland’s first skyscraper, now quite literally towered over by the nearby US Bancorp Tower. You’ll see banks, office towers, public plazas, and hotels, along with Belluschi’s most important Portland building and a few more recent additions to the city’s skyline. Space is Limited. Pre-Registration is Required. 10AM-12PM
