Learn More about Slavery in the North with author Marc H. Ross at Linden Place Mansion

November 1, 2018
Learn More about Slavery in the North with author Marc H. Ross at Linden Place Mansion
On Thursday, November 1st, 2018 at 7:30pm, take a step back in time to a period in American history that is rarely spoken about. Join author, Marc Howard Ross, as he delves into the little-remembered story of slavery in the North. Ross explores the complexity of America’s past while bringing light to the northern portion of an issue largely seen as confined to the South. The lecture focuses the role northern colonies played in the early American slave trade. From the slave trade hub of Rhode Island to President George Washington’s slaves in Philadelphia, just steps from Independence Hall, Ross examines the North’s contributions to America’s history of slavery and asks why enslavement disappeared from the North’s memory.

Marc Howard Ross, author of the book, Slavery in the North: Forgotten History and Recovering Memory, is Professor Emeritus in Political Science at Bryn Mawr College. He has authored six books, and is also a past chair of the Peace and Conflict Studies
Section of the International Studies Association as well as a past president of
the Society for Cross-Cultural Research.

Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for Linden Place members. Books will be available for purchase in the Linden Place Gift Shop. Reserve your seats today as space is limited! For more information and to purchase tickets, please contact the
