November 8, 2018
Women at War: Female Service Members During WWII
The Fitchburg Historical Society will host a talk on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 6 p.m. by Asher Jackson. Mr. Jackson’s presentation is entitled Women at War: Female Service Members during WWII.  As the city prepares to celebrate Veterans’ Day, he will share stories about the sacrifices made by the Greatest Generation that make Fitchburg proud.

Asher will present a look at the brave women from Fitchburg and Leominster who served in World War II, the roles that they played, and the dangers that they faced. His presentation will be illustrated with historic documents and photos from the archives at Fitchburg State University and the Fitchburg Historical Society. A question and answer opportunity will follow.

Asher Jackson is the archivist at the Gallucci-Cirio Library at Fitchburg State University, where he works closely with faculty and students in the areas of History, Education, Communications, and English Literature. Prior to coming to Fitchburg State, he worked as an archivist and rare book cataloger at the May Morris Library, University of Delaware.  Asher earned a B.A. in English and Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley and an M.S. in Library and Information Science from Simmons College.  He lives in Fitchburg.
