Peña Adobe Welcomes Cecelia Peña & Armando Perez, Sat. March 2, 2019

March 2, 2019

Join the Peña Adobe Historical Society in welcoming this month's guests, Cecelia Peña and Armando Perez to the Peña Adobe Monthly Open House, Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 11:00am – 2:00pm.

Cecelia Peña represents the fifth generation of Vacaville pioneer Juan Felipe Peña.  In 1933, Cecelia’s grandfather, Vidal Pena, grandson of Juan Felipe Peña, still owned about 55 acres of the original 1842 Vaca-Peña Land Grant.  Cecelia will share stories, and photographs, and chat with visitors from 11:00 until 2:00 about her remarkable family, headed by Cecelia's great, great grandfather, Juan Felipe Peña the namesake of the Peña Adobe Park.

Cecelia will be joined by Armando Perez, of Vacaville, who is of Apache descent.  Perez’s grandfather was a shaman, a healer who taught of Mother Earth's healing powers.  Dressed in traditional mission whites, with leather leggings and head covering, Armando will speak of Native American history and share artifacts with park visitors.

There is no charge for admission into the historical park.  Docents will be on hand to conduct tours of the Peña Adobe, built in 1842 by the Peña family, who with the Vaca family settled in Vacaville’s Lagoon Valley.  Visit the adjacent Mowers-Goheen Museum and see our collection of artifacts which includes a woolly mammoth bone found locally near Putah Creek.

The park is located at Peña Adobe Road in Vacaville’s rural southwest section just off of Interstate 80 to the left of the Lagoon Valley Park entrance.  For questions in advance, call (707) 447-0518 or visit our website www.penaadobe.org.  If you have an interest in local history, e-mail us at penaadobe@gmail.com and come join us at this gateway to Vacaville!
