CNU XV: New Urbanism and the Old City

May 17-20, 2007
CNU XV: New Urbanism and the Old City

Attend the premier gathering of New Urbanists. The annual Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) is the leading venue for new urbanist networking, collaboration, and education. CNU members come from far and wide to discuss development practices and public policies, learn from recent innovative work, and advance new initatives to transform our communities.

Philadelphia is among the oldest planned cities in America. Today, its lively neighborhoods, walkable streets, and centuries-old architecture hold countless lessons for the design and repair of neighborhoods and downtowns everywhere. Our 2007 Congress will take place in the heart of Center City, where a dynamic residential rebirth is underway and new restaurants, martini bars, and coffeehouses open up weekly in mixed- use rowhouses and ground floor storefronts in and around Center City. At the same time, the sweeping Neighborhood Transformation Initiative in distressed neighborhoods aims to replace old urban fabric with new. What form will it take?

Why You Should Come
New Urbanism is a growing interdisciplinary movement. We welcome city leaders, developers, architects, landscape architects, town planners, urban designers, engineers, environmental consultants, housing specialists, real estate brokers, real estate financiers and government officials. Community activists, students, and interested members of the public are also encouraged to attend.

  • Connect and collaborate with other new urbanist practitioners
  • Experience excellent traditional urbanism firsthand though local tours of unique Philadelphia neighborhoods and new urban developments
  • Learn how practitioners are applying the Charter principles in the field
  • Stay on the cusp of the latest new urbanist trends
  • Contribute your own ideas and experience to take New Urbanism to the next level
  • Learn about new products and the latest innovations at CNU exhibits
