Practical Discussions and Lessons About Saving Barns

The Indiana Barn Foundation Forum and Annual Meeting will be held at Oakwood Retreat Center in Selma, Delaware County, Indiana. Architect and architectural historian, Jane Griswold Radocchia from Bennington, VT, will be the keynote speaker and will talk about the practical geometry that built America, including barns. A dinner and workshop with limited registration will take place Friday evening. The keynote address Saturday afternoon is sponsored by the Cornelius O’Brien Lecture Series Concerning Historic Preservation and is free and open to the public. AIA CEU credits are available for architects who attend either event.
Barn owners, barn enthusiasts, community leaders, architects, contractors, preservationists, and all with an interest in the saving and reuse of Indiana’s historic barns are invited to attend the 2019 Indiana Barn Foundation Forum and Annual Meeting at Oakwood Retreat Center, Selma, Indiana. On Friday, July 19, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. will be a pre-meeting dinner and workshop entitled Practical Geometry: Framing a Barn with a Compass. The cost per person is $40 and includes dinner from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Space is strictly limited to 15 participants and pre-registration is required.
On Saturday, July 20, from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. will be the Forum and Annual Meeting. Talks will include “Reuse It or Lose It, Reclaiming Barns, A Heretical View (with apologies to the Secretary of the Interior)”; Updates on the 2018 Mauri Williamson Barn Preservation Grant recipients and announcement of the 2019 recipients; and “Practical Geometry: Designing and Framing Barns with Geometry Before 1900.” Registration for the full day on Saturday is $40 per person and includes lunch.
