City Permits & Inspections - what every old house owner should know!

January 26, 2008

There is a lot to think through and manage when you're renovating an old house, not the least of which is the world of city permits. Jeff Eldredge, an Inspection Manager with the City of Portland, will help you understand and navigate the world of permits and inspections, avoiding common pitfalls that can result in property owner liability, nullification of insurance coverage, and resale headaches.

His presentation will clear up some of the myths about permits and inspections, and provide an overview of the who, what, when, where and whys. His talk will include what triggers the need for a permit; how to submit plans; how to "legalize" previous work that was not permitted; what work can be done by the homeowner; fee structures; where to go for questions and how the process works.

Whether you're working with a contractor or doing it yourself, it pays to understand the laws before you begin.

Pre-registration is strongly suggested, either here at our website or using the form in the newsletter.
