A New LightRivers of Steel Arts presents Light
Play & the Homestead Streetside Gallery
Does it take an artists' eye to see something new in the familiar?
Not necessarily, but it certainly helps! With the backdrop of a global pandemic, the Rivers of Steel Arts team set their sights on delivering eye-opening experiences that can be enjoyed on the individual (read: socially distant) level. Two new exhibitions opening this week do just that.
LightPlay is a light-based, sensory exhibition opening September 10 at the Carrie Blast Furnaces. It brings together a diverse group of local artists and engineers who have created a range of immersive light and sound installations, digital video artworks, and illuminated sculptures that engage with the site’s intricate structural characteristics, cavernous pathways, and unique industrial aesthetic. This timed-ticketed exhibition has a limited run— just eleven nights through October 1—so don't delay when making your plans.
In contrast, the Homestead Streetside Gallery is open day and night throughout the fall season. For this street scene experience, 21 local artists produced 11 murals and 13 window installations throughout Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Avenues in Homestead. The works will be on display through the fall of 2020, so take advantage of some exceptional September weather to take a walk—embracing the adventure of discovering something new along the way!
