2020 East Tennessee Preservation Conference to be Held Virtually on September 18

September 18, 2020

Knox Heritage will present the 2020 East Tennessee Preservation Conference on Friday, September 18. The conference will be broadcast virtually using the ZOOM platform. American Institute of Architects (AIA) continuing education credits will be available.

Ethiel Garlington, the Executive Director of Historic Macon Foundation will be our keynote speaker. Jack Neely will discuss the recent Knoxville History Project publication about the Bearden neighborhood and the process of “publishing history”. We will dig deeper into the grassroots efforts one regional small town used to spur local preservation, visit with Becky Hancock, the Executive Director of the Historic Tennessee Theater Foundation, and much more!

For over a decade, Knox Heritage and the East Tennessee Preservation Alliance has brought the East Tennessee Preservation Conference to our region. It has become a cherished event for those who love history, historic sites, and learning about preservation methods.

Many regional communities have been highlighted by the conference. Townsend, Rugby, Jonesborough, Gatlinburg, Maryville, Oak Ridge, Knoxville, Morristown, and Clinton have hosted the event. Attendees include preservation professionals, architects, planners, tourism professionals, government and community leaders, economic developers, real estate professionals and others who have found that advanced knowledge of historic preservation principles and practices has value. It is a great event for learning, networking and experiencing historic sites distinctive to the host community.

The conference is made possible by the following sponsors: The City of Knoxville, Design Innovation Architects, The East Tennessee Foundation, Johnson Architecture, Inc., McCarty Holsaple McCarty Architects, Sparkman & Associates Architects, Inc, Brewer Ingram Fuller Architects, Inc. and Thomason & Associates.

Conference tickets are $25. Please visit www.knoxheritage.org for more information and to register.
