Virtual lecture: Chicago's Monuments and Memorials
October 15, 2020 |
On Thursday, October 15th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Wilmette Historical Museum will host a virtual lecture via Zoom with Jennifer Scott discussing “Chicago’s Monuments and Memorials.” Ms. Scott is co-chair of Chicago’s citywide monuments project launched in August which “will grapple with the often unacknowledged – or forgotten – history associated with the City’s various municipal art collections, and will provide a vehicle to address the hard truths of Chicago’s racial history, confront the ways in which that history has and has not been memorialized, and develop a framework for marking public space that elevates new ways to memorialize Chicago’s true and complete history.” She has a background in anthropology and public history, and has previously worked for the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum and the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience.
The program is free to the public thanks to the generous support of museum members and donors. Advance registration by October 14th is required and can be made on the museum website. For more information, visit www.wilmettehistory.org or call (847) 853-7666.
