W02 Repairing Wood Windows – A Master Class, Cost: $185 (with 1-day conference pass)

  • Instructor:  John Leeke, Preservationist, John Leeke’s Historic Home Works, Portland, ME; Co-Instructors: Jim Turner, Turner Restoration, Detroit, MI,  Duffy Hoffman, Preservation Consultant, Elkins, WV
  • Assistants: Rickie Peterson, Workshop Assistant, reservation tradesman, Ipswich, MA, working with Cleary & Son, Inc., Waltham, MA, window restoration specialists; Bill Karp, Workshop Assistant Karp Woodworks, Ashland, MA
  • Learn how to:
    • Stabilize a window to limit deterioration until more effective repairs can be done.
    • Identify the four most commonly needed maintenance and repair methods for wood windows.
    • Upgrade the thermal and comfort performance of wood windows.
  • This workshop will focus specifically on the few most common and necessary maintenance methods, repair procedures, and treatment strategies for old windows.  Attendees will use and learn specific methods and procedures that have proven effective for the past three decades.  Specific topics covered will be paint and putty maintenance, repairing exterior wood sills, sash joint repairs, and glass repair and replacement.
