Complicating Our Relationship with Place
March 1, 2021 |
On March 1st, join Preservation Buffalo Niagara for a virtual moderated event: Complicating Our Relationship with Place. For over a year PBN has worked toward updating Buffalo City Hall: Americanesque Masterpiece which was first produced in 1993 by the Landmark Society of the Niagara Frontier and originally authored by John Conlin to coincide with an exhibition at the Burchfield Penney Art Center.
This new version has been updated and edited by Preservation Buffalo Niagara Staff with the help of Jodi Lynn Maracle to include new information and to properly identify and describe the Indigenous imagery and symbolism of the building.
City Hall is one of our most beloved local buildings, but it is also a complicated site that highlights what scholar Jodi Lynn Maracle calls “the hypervisibility of erasure” of our native community members. Come learn about the beginnings of our efforts to bring a greater depth of knowledge and understanding to not just this site, but our work across the region.
