Mid-Century Modern: Preserving the Recent Past
April 6, 2008 |
"Modern" buildings of the postwar era (1940s to '60s) transformed cities, suburbs, and landscapes throughout the country. Now preservationists are taking a serious look at these resources to consider which ones merit protection.
As house trends change, mid-century and ranch housing is threatened by demolition or inappropriate additions, and exterior and interior changes. The Architectural Heritage Center is hosting Jeanne Lambin, author of Preserving Resources from the Recent Past, for a look at the historic context of the postwar building boom, the special challenges of preserving this legacy, and tips for restoring mid-century houses. Pre-registration is strongly recommended– call 503-231-7264 or www.VisitAHC.org.
Sunday, April 6th 1:00 – 2:30pm Architectural Heritage Center, 701 SE Grand Avenue, Portland Tickets: $18 [AHC Members: $13] Sponsored by: Atomic Ranch Magazine and Rejuvenation
