The Arts and Crafts Houses of Emil Schacht
April 12, 2008 |
Portland is nationally recognized for its treasure trove of Craftsman Style homes that epitomized the search for "authentic" American architecture in the early 20th Century. AHC lecturers Jim Heuer and Robert Mercer take you back to 1905 on a trolley ride you might have taken to see the "Modern Homes of Willamette Heights" from the grounds of the Lewis & Clark Exposition. They'll show you the homes along that route that inspired thousands of Portland residents to rush out and build their own ultra-modern Craftsman homes and how Emil Schacht adapted the ideas of Stickley and the English Arts and Crafts movement to Northwest home buyers.
Saturday, April 12th 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. Architectural Heritage Center, 701 SE Grand Avenue, Portland, OR Tickets: $18 [AHC Members: $13] Sponsored by: Kraft Custom Construction
