Philadelphia, PA – As a result of Mayor Nutter’s campaign promises, the Philly Spring Clean Up will be taking place at the Walnut Lane Bridge on April 5th, from 12PM – 2PM. Part of a city-wide goal of removing 1 million pounds of litter, the Walnut Lane Bridge is one of over 144 registered projects for the initiative.
All community members and students are highly encouraged to come out and help make Philadelphia beautiful again. At the Walnut Lane Bridge site, volunteers will be cleaning the trails and removing trash from the areas around the bridge. Graffiti and trash have become a sore around the area, and the community is needed to preserve this historic landmark.
Registration for the event will begin at 11:30AM, and cleanup will last from 12PM – 2PM. Sign in will take place at the Walnut Lane Bridge parking area, located in Fairmount Park at the intersection of Johnson Street and Walnut Lane. All volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable sneakers, clothes that can get dirty, as well as sunblock. Participating individuals will receive free transportation passes from SEPTA for the day as well as a free barbeque at Lincoln Financial Field after the event.
Before coming, volunteers are encouraged to register at www.phillycleanup.com, where they can select Cliveden of the National Trust, who will be coordinating the event. The clean up is a kickoff to Cliveden’s 2008 exhibition, “Building Bridges: Linking Lives and Communities,” which will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the bridge.
