Howard Hawks Double Feature - A Song is Born & The Big Sleep

March 19, 2022
Howard Hawks Double Feature - A Song is Born & The Big Sleep
Howard Hawks Double Feature

The Elkhart County Historical Museum and Goshen Theater invite you to join us for two classic movies celebrating the work of filmmaker and Goshen native Howard Hawks (1896-1977).

Howard Hawks enjoyed a successful career encompassing a range of film genres. In 1942 his film Sergeant York garnered Hawks an Academy Award nomination for Best Director, and in 1975 he received an honorary Academy Award, which was presented by John Wayne, whom he directed in four notable films.

The two films selected for this debut event will be shown free of charge at the historic Goshen Theater. The double feature begins with A Song is Born screening at 2:00 pm. This musical comedy was the first Hawks film in technicolor. It features Danny Kaye, Virginia Mayo and a parade of world-class musicians from the 1940s. The evening film will be The Big Sleep at 7:00 pm. This suspense-filled film noir stars real-life Hollywood couple, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall in their second appearance together.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Elkhart County Historical Museum on this celebration of Howard Hawks. His films are legendary, nostalgic, and vital to the greater history of filmmaking, (And, by the way, are some of my personal favorites!) - Susan Visser, Executive Director of Goshen Theater

Be advised: A Song is Born contains dated racial stereotypes.

Free admission. Concessions will be available for purchase (COVID-19 permitting). The Goshen Theater is located at 216 South Main Street, Goshen. For more information visit elkhartcountyparks.org/events OR goshentheater.com/events.

Seating is limited. Reserve your FREE tickets today!
